The Benefit of Diversifying Your Fitness & Lifestyle Direction

There is definitely something to be said for picking a goal, one thing to focus on, and not getting sidetracked, overwhelmed or distracted by many other ‘shiny objects’.
But we can safely assume that for most of us the main ‘solid’ goals are to have a better life or achieve a certain specific life’s aim. for example you may want a better body. A healthier life. A better job or one of many other solid accomplishments.
So whilst it is obviously great for us to know what we want its also important to always understand the need and the true benefit of having and pursuing various ‘small victories’ on the path to our main goal.
What I mean by this is that the main goal can be considered our prize. But the list of different accomplishments on the path to that prize are what give us experience, enjoyment and help us grow as humans. And this is where lies the foundation and meaning when people say its not about the prize but the journey to get there.
Many times I myself have achieved a certain thing – or I have met many others who have also achieved great goals – but we all agree that the journey to get there is what really stands out once you’ve tasted the final victory. (sometimes it does not feel like that when you are on that ‘journey’ – but hindsight always confirms this.)
Yes the journey is not always paved with smooth or comfortable experiences but this diversification of learning, achievement, understanding, progression and small victories really is the fuel that keeps us going towards the big prize and also acts as the small improvements in our character, the enhancements in our self esteem and the real experiences that will forever stay with us as important lessons and moments that shape our lives and the people we become.
The prize at the end is just that: a prize for making it through the journey.
But as with almost all end results the taste of victory is fantastic, the sense of fulfillment is impressive, but soon the dust settles and we have the fit and healthy body, the new job, the latest achievement or whatever all sewn up….
Its then that we can turn and say that the journey has truly changed us and will likely be the lasting impression in our lives that is remembered more.
And then of course, we plan for the next goal and the interesting and challenging journey that we will have to go through to get there.
The fact is we cannot achieve anything worthwhile without gaining so much on the path to getting it.
The worst thing we can do is quit when it seems hard, because that’s the moment we are really about to learn something about ourselves and also the point when we are about to turn the corner and get closer to our dreams and goals.
So diversification in our lives is a must and an automatic certainty on our path to our bigger goals.
It does not mean we are not focused it simply mean we are being blessed with a myriad of lessons that will benefit and improve us as humans beyond all measure – if we have the guts to stick it out and keep moving through any obstacle with our eyes on the bigger prize we initially set for ourselves.
