Listening To Music Helps You Lose Body Fat

Interesting…Listening To Music Helps You Lose Body Fat!
Ok, I was just browsing an article on a study that ‘simply put’ showed that people with severe lung disability / disease actually walked further whilst listening to music than those who had no music at all during their fitness program.
Yep, this study tested a group of people with lung disease who had basically given up on fitness totally and got them to perform walking tests or endurance whilst listening to music. The results I’ll go into but the conclusive point was that:
By the end of the study, the total walking distance covered by the music group was 24 percent higher than that walked by the non-music group.
Now I know that a lot of people are not just doing walking as exercise (if you are then fine) but what I thought this would allow me to do is discuss with you good people something I’ve always believed – That music and working out go together like – peanut butter and jelly (It just works!) – (Or in England like fish and chips!)
You see whilst fitness and helping others in this industry has always been a major passion of mine I’ve always had a serious passion for music. From a young age seeing and marveling over my parents box of records with Abba, Boney M (yeah really) and other hippy classics
to my current tastes and passions for bands like Coldplay and Kings of Leon – music has always been a major – MAJOR thing in my life. Heck, I even met my wife at a full moon party on a small island in Thailand, at an all night dance party on the moonlit beach…I’ll never forget that music!
so music is part of my life. And its part of my fitness routine too.
I will say I’ve gone through periods where I don’t listen to much music or none at all during training But I always revert back to grabbing the ipod and my newest playlist as I hit the gym. I know many of you do so too…
Well, back to the first study. Even though it is only a walking study in my head I can see where they are going with this. The way I interpret the info to is that these people, as well as being ‘distracted’ from the typical things they mentally ‘bothered about’ when starting or attempting to do some exercise, they were also placed into a mental state that took any boredom out of the exercise and to use a cliche: put a spring in their step.
You know how it is when you listen to great music – and I mean when you are not in the gym. It picks you up and inspires. Now when I workout I have certain music that focuses me, inspires me and really makes my time in a gym even more enjoyable than without.
I really feel I get a better workout with music playing.
Listening To Music Helps You Lose Body Fat – Really?
I even use music throughout the whole of my Bootcamp Classes. My clients even bring their own music too which is a great change up. (we had that ‘I like big butt’s’ song on the other day as a joke from one of my clients! – the class loved it and it really inspired them to get fit!
)
But to the point of fat loss and will you lose more fat? Well of course music to your ears does not make calories burn into thin air. BUT I do definitely believe that people work harder, with more intensity and inspiration and dedication with cool music playing – I see it in my bootcamps all the time.
Here’s another interesting study:
New research conducted by Christopher Capuano, PhD, backs this theory up with tangible scientific data. His study, conducted at Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Psycology, found that listening to music boosts weight loss and helps people work out more regularly.
“Over a period of 24 weeks, a group of overweight women maintained a healthy diet and regular exercise regimen. They also met for weekly group sessions on lifestyle change. Half of the women were told to listen to music while they walked. While all of the women lost weight, the loss was twice as much for the group that had access to music.”
So I thought I’d put up a list of some of the music I have in some one of my playlists to show you a quick list of what I like and enjoy working out too.
